People in Action (Leeds) is an independent registered charity established in 1983. Our aim is to see a world without prejudice where everyone is valued, accepted and respected as equals. To achieve this we work with and for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Our objectives are met by supporting service providers to ensure all people with learning difficulties and disabilities can have real choice and control over their lives and receive the same opportunities as everyone else in:
health and wellbeing,
employment,
public services,
independent living and have social and leisure activities.

We have 800 members of the Charity who are people with learning difficulties and disabilities, carers, and professionals from all sectors.

Membership is consulted and involved in setting the strategic direction of the charity through 3 Members meetings a year as well as issue specific focus groups e.g. website developments, Annual report, project evaluations.

We work with 500+ people with learning difficulties and disabilities a week and engage with their families / carers from across the city that are from many diverse backgrounds. Our activities are community based and culturally sensitive providing social, leisure, walking, swimming, horse riding, archery, learning to cook, personal care etc

Since 2000 we have developed our capacity to involve people with learning difficulties and disabilities from marginalised communities such as African; African Caribbean, South Asian, refugees and Eastern European. We have achieved this through consistent developments and project delivery research and campaigning.
